Oregon Practice Improvement Collective
Grant range: October 2001 – September 2004
The Oregon Practice Improvement Collaborative (OPIC) is a project under the auspice of the Department of Public Health at OHSU, funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The purpose of OPIC is to unite community-based treatment organizations, consumers, researchers, policy makers, educators and other stakeholders to increase the use of research-based interventions in treating substance abuse. The Collaborative facilitates specific network enhancement activities (trainings and workshops) to increase the capability of community-based organizations to adopt evidence-based practices. The OPIC also funds pilots and knowledge adoption studies on priority issues identified by the OPIC Partnership Council.
The Regional Research Institute is under contract to conduct the evaluation of the OPIC and has been involved in the following OPIC related activities:
- Distribution and collection of pre-event, post-event and follow-up GPRA surveys that evaluate knowledge gained and the experience of participants at OPIC sponsored trainings, conferences and/or meetings
- Conducted OPIC Stakeholder Telephone Interviews following Year I and Year II. Themes and recommendations for improvement were presented to the OPIC Operations Committee
- Developed interview protocol and conducted semi-annual group interviews to evaluate Motivational Interviewing Knowledge Adoption Study progress
- Played an important role in establishing the OPIC consumer workgroup (CARE group) and enhancing their participation within the Collaborative
- Contributed to semi-annual reports by detailing GPRA activities
- Reviewed literature pertaining to faith in substance abuse recovery and made presentation at the 2004 OPIC sponsored Faith in Recovery Workshop
- Developed and carried out a Faith Based Needs Assessment with the goal of determining the faith needs of consumers in recovery and assessing how well substance abuse providers were meeting those needs
