Self Advocates As Leaders (SAAL) is an organization of  people with developmental disabilities who are interested in developing leadership skills and becoming equal partners in policy and legislation that affects their lives. They are people with disabilities who want to be active leaders, some of them have lived in institutions. They have all faced discrimination in their lives. They want to stand up together for their rights and contribute to their communities. They want to help improve services and give people better choices. SAAL is run by members with Developmental Disabilities. Portland State University partners with SAAL to provide them with support staff who can assist them with meeting their organizational goals.
